Dominion Nuclear Connecticut Millstone Power Station Nuclear Engineering Technology Scholarships

Dominion Nuclear Connecticut supports promising candidates for the Nuclear Engineering Technology program at Three Rivers Community College with up to sixteen two-year scholarship awards, each of which includes:

  • Tuition and fees

  • Books

  • TI 89 Graphing Calculator

  • Monthly stipend

  • 12-week paid summer internship (see Other Benefits for more details)

  • Free student membership in three professional societies

To be accepted into the Nuclear Engineering Technology degree program, students must meet the following admission requirements:

  • Graduation from high school or a vocational-technical school. A State or Federal equivalency diploma is acceptable.

  • Two units in mathematics (one in algebra and one in geometry, or two in algebra).

  • One unit in physical science with a laboratory (preferably chemistry or physics).

  • Four units of English. Completion of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is preferred, but not required.

Factors considered include:

  • High School grade point average (especially in science and math courses) and class rank, as well as any post-secondary academic work.

  • Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores, especially mathematics.

  • Demonstrated skills, aptitudes or experience.

  • Extracurricular activities.

  • Written essay.

  • Personal interview.

Other Benefits

In order to augment the classroom aspects with “real world” experience, Millstone Power Station provides 12-week summer employment opportunities for its scholarship students between the first and second year of their degree programs. This gives them the opportunity to see nuclear utility operations first hand and develop significant practical work experience.

Students have had summer positions in areas such as operations, engineering, maintenance, instrumentation and controls, health physics, chemistry, quality assurance, emergency planning and other related disciplines. They earn approximately $680 per week (or higher with related job experience).

2022 Windham PRIDE/Willimantic Police Scholarship Program

The Town of Windham is pleased to announce the 2022 Windham PRIDE/Willimantic Police Scholarship Program. This program is made possible through a grant from the State of Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development's Office of the Arts. Eligible applicants include students who have participated in any one of the Windham PRIDE, Willimantic Police/PRIDE Youth Leadership or Willimantic Fire Department Emergency Medical Training Programs.

We will be awarding scholarships in the amount of $2,000 to qualified students pursuing higher education in the 2022 academic year or currently enrolled in higher education. Applicants should be able to describe their interest or experience(s) in one or more of the following categories: youth leadership, substance misuse prevention, health care, emergency medical services, criminal justice, social services, civic engagement.

Connecticut Parks Association Scholarship
The scholarship award program was named in honor of Dennis Malone after he passed away in 1998. Dennis was a past president of the Association and founder of the scholarship program. Application Deadline April 18, 2022

These will be education scholarships to benefit the families of firefighters. The Fund will support at least two $500 Firefighters Scholarships. 
To be eligible to apply for the Scholarship you must be either:  a Firefighter, or the spouse, child, sibling or grandchild of a firefighter. 
Scholarship A will be awarded to an eligible applicant from the Southington Fire Department.  
Scholarship B will be awarded to an eligible applicant from any Fire Department in the State of Connecticut.

2022 Seed Scholars Program In Partnership with Yale Women in Economics
The Seed Scholars Program in Partnership with Yale Women in Economics is a 10-month program that provides H.S. young women of color in their 11th grade year with the capacity to build scholarship/college packages, career skills, and financial literacy through an intensive preparatory process. Program participants have been awarded $15M in college scholarships and grants through the support of the below programming. PB & J Scholarship The PB&J Scholarship is for students who have experienced personal challenges that may not have allowed them to perform well academically, but who still have the drive to succeed.

The 2022 George Coleman Scholarship is now available
George Coleman Scholarship Sponsored by the New England Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (NEACRAO). Each year, the New England Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers awards scholarships to three high school graduates who will be enrolling in a NEACRAO member institution for the fall semester of that year. Each high school graduate who is selected is awarded $2,000*. Each recipient of the scholarship is selected from candidates who are recommended by New England secondary school counselor. The Red Sox Foundation’s Service Scholarship initiative rewards graduating high school seniors across New England who are making a meaningful impact through service in their local communities by awarding them a $1,000 college scholarship. We are beyond excited to bring this initiative back after the challenging year we faced with the COVID-19 pandemic. We know that students all over the country had a difficult year academically, socially and civically. Though there were many obstacles, we also know that many young people maintained their commitment to giving back. We want to recognize and reward those high school seniors who stepped up to serve their community to be a source of positivity during this unprecedented year. We will soon be accepting Red Sox Foundation Service Scholarship applications from graduating high school seniors who will be attending a 2– or 4-year institution in the fall of 2022. To be eligible, students must be graduating from a public high school in Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island or Vermont.

The Bridging the Dream Scholarship for High School Seniors: The Sallie Mae Fund will award (25) $10,000 scholarships to high school seniors who plan to enroll in a two- or four-year degree professional certificate, or vocational training program. Seniors who excel inside and outside of the classroom and demonstrate financial need can apply NOW through Feb. 28. Application Deadline Feb 28.

The Completing the Dream Scholarship: The Sallie Mae Fund will award (185) gap scholarships worth up to $2,500 each to minority students and those from underserved communities who are on track to graduate but are at-risk of not completing due to financial emergency or unpaid school bill. Students can apply NOW for the Completing the Dream Scholarship. Application Deadline Feb 28.

Wells Fargo Scholarship Program for People with Disabilities

The James L. Goodwin Memorial Scholarships provide financial aid, depending on need, to students who are residents of Connecticut and are enrolled in undergraduate or graduate curriculum in silviculture or forest resource management.  Annual scholarships of $1,000 to $5,000 will be awarded to a limited number of students for post-secondary education.  The scholarships are given in memory of the late James L. Connecticut Building Congress Scholarship Fund

The Connecticut Building Congress Scholarship Fund offers scholarships to graduating Connecticut high school students entering college-level programs in architecture, construction-related engineering, construction management, surveying, planning or other courses of study leading to associate, baccalaureate, or masters degrees in the construction field. The Isidore Wise Scholarship

Through a competitive application process, six (6) scholarships will be awarded to eligible high school students who will be completing their senior year in 2022 and attending an accredited post-secondary undergraduate institution in the fall. Because we believe that many of the potential long-term employees of our industry are gaining their education slowly, on a part time basis, while working, CNF will sponsor part time horticultural education.  CNF has allocated $20,000 per year ($5,000 per quarter) for this program.

The grant will be in the amount of $500.  This is a one-time grant to a CT student, who has been accepted by the University of Connecticut, majoring in the field of Horticulture in either the 2 or 4-year program.

This scholarship is for students who are a non-traditional learner. They will be considered on their enthusiasm, diligence, aspirations, and potential as a valued member of the horticultural field.  The CT Nurserymen’s Foundation believes that these factors should not be considered limitations to success in our industry.  Instead, we want to offer an opportunity to allow all individuals who are looking for assistance to have a fair and unbiased chance to be recognized for what they can offer the industry.

If you have a love of plants and are interested in going into the nursery/horticulture field and this describes you, we urge you to apply for this scholarship. CNF will fund one student in the amount of $2,500 per semester/$5,000 per year.

The applicant must be accepted into a course of study beneficial to the Horticultural industry.  This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Ornamental Horticulture

  • Landscape Design

  • Nursery Management

  • Greenhouse Management.

The scholarship grant will be $5,000 per year, renewable if the student maintains academic eligibility in college.

  • Students must maintain a 3.0 grade point average (GPA).

  • Students must be residents of the State of Connecticut, and may attend either in state or out of state institutions.  The student must be a high school senior or currently enrolled at the college level, majoring in a horticulture related field.

All completed and signed applications must be received by the Foundation no later than the deadline on the application.  No application will be considered without the following:

  • Copies of the Student Aid Report (SAR)

  • Copies of Financial Aid Award letter (if received)

  • At least two letters of recommendation

  • High school records, transcript and SAT scores or college transcript for those already enrolled in a college level program.

  • A copy of the Letter of Acceptance from the college, if available. If not available, forward to the CNF office no later than the deadline.

The scholarship will be based on academic achievement, financial need, and non-school work related to horticulture.  The candidate will be selected mid-April.

Soroptimist Live Your Dream Award (Applications due November 15)

The Soroptimist Live Your Dream Award assists women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families, the opportunity to achieve their career goals by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment prospects. In addition to providing the primary financial support for their families, eligible applicants must be enrolled in, or have been accepted to, a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program and must demonstrate financial need. The Willimantic Club awards $1,500 to the first place award winner and provides several smaller awards from $500 to $800. Many of our winners have overcome enormous obstacles including poverty, domestic violence and/or drug and alcohol abuse. Live Your Dream Awards recipients may use the cash award to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education, such as books, childcare, tuition and transportation. Soroptimist International of Willimantic Dream Grants help women overcome obstacles to living their dreams. This new grant is all about helping women who have faced economic and personal hardships to live their dreams. The program helps women build a better life for themselves. The Soroptimist Dream Grant funds up to $500 which can be used for licensing fees, testing fees, tuition or transportation including bus passes and gas cards.
