Windham Center School to close at the end of the 2024-25 school year, and 5th Graders will return to Windham Middle School for the 2025-26 school year.

On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, the Windham Board of Education voted to close Windham Center School at the end of the 2024-2025 school year and to return the 5th grade to Windham Middle School for the start of the 2025-2026 school year.  These were extremely difficult decisions, but were necessary given increasing operations costs, declining enrollment, and our focus on providing a quality learning experience for all Windham students.  In preparation for these transitions, the district and schools have been engaging in numerous informational and welcome activities for our students and families.  You can read about these activities here below.

PARENT/FAMILY FORUMS & OPEN HOUSES

During the 2023-2024 school year, informational parent/family forums were held on Tuesday, June 4th at Natchaug and Windham Center Schools and on Monday, June 10th at Sweeney and North Windham Schools.

During the 2024-2025 school year, informational parent/family forums were held on Tuesday, April 8 at Sweeney School (for Sweeney and Windham Center Schools), Thursday, April 10 at North Windham School (for North Windham and Windham Center Schools), and Thursday, April 24 at Natchaug School.

UNIFORM POLICIES:

A Frequently-Asked-Questions (FAQs) document is being created based on parents’/guardians’ questions during those forums.

On Monday, June 2, students currently in Grade 5 will participate in their Step-Up Day at Windham Middle School.  On Tuesday, June 3, students currently in Grade 4 will participate in a similar visit to Windham Middle School.  Additionally, Windham Middle School is holding an Open House for the parents/families of all current Grades 4 and 5 students in the evening of Tuesday, June 3 from 6:00-7:00pm.  Please see the flyer below about these events.

On Tuesday, May 27, Sweeney School will hold a Welcome Night for the families of current Windham Center grade 3 students.  On Wednesday, June 4, North Windham School will hold a Welcome Night for the families of current Windham center grades K-2 students.  These Welcome Nights are an opportunity for Windham Center families to hear information and ask questions about their children’s new schools next year.
