2023 Governor's Reading Challenge

The Governor's Summer Reading Challenge is a statewide program coordinated by the Connecticut State Department of Education in conjunction with the Connecticut State Library.

Reading opens the door to all learning.  Here are tips to encourage reading at home:

  • Go to the library - getting a card is free and provides access to printed and electronic materials, free or discounted museum passes, and other services.
  • Read Every Day - Make it a habit to set aside time each day for everyone to read - books, magazines, newspapers, letters.
  • Talk about what you read.  Children need to see adults reading, and they need to know the benefits of reading.  Talk to your children, family members and friends about what you are reading.  Tell them how much you have enjoyed it, what you learned from it, and how you have been inspired by something you read.
  • Take advantage of the summer reading materials that are available to all Windham Public Schools students, and from the Willimantic Public Library.
  • Make reading materials part of your home.  Whether you buy books from the bookstore, a tag sale, or borrow books and magazines from the library or friends, and read, read, read!
