Good Afternoon Windham Community,

As most of you have heard, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) issued new guidelines and mask recommendations yesterday. The new recommendations are clearly not in alignment with the current masking expectations for the Windham Public Schools, which I am aware creates a very real conflict for many students, staff and families.  While many may be conflicted, since the district’s masking expectations were established through a formal Board of Education decision made on February 23rd, the district is obligated to follow the Board’s decision until such time as that decision is changed by the Board of Ed.

To provide the Board with an opportunity to discuss this topic of masking and take action as they see fit, we are amending the March 2nd Special Budget Workshop Meeting to include the mask discussion and action. The March 2nd meeting is an in person meeting that will be held in Windham Middle School’s auditorium.  So, I am asking students and staff to continue to abide by the Board’s decision to wear masks at school, on the school bus and in the early head start and head start classrooms, until they have had a chance to formally consider the new guidance on March 2nd.

Your continued patience, respectful communication and cooperation is very much appreciated! Please enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Tracy A. Youngberg, Ed.D.
