Buenos días Comunidad Windham, En mi llamada con el Departamento de Policía de Willimantic, me enteré de que la amenaza de ayer en las redes sociales todavía se considera una investigación activa. Good Morning Windham Community, In my morning call with the Willimantic Police Department, I learned that yesterday’s social media threat is still considered an active investigation. They do not, however, believe there is a need for a police presence on any school campus today. They plan to keep me updated should any new information become available. I also want to address the misinformation being shared on social media yesterday. At no point in yesterday’s investigation did the Willimantic PD narrow down the unspecified threat to a specific school in town. Good Morning, Late last night I was notified by the Willimantic Police Department that they were investigating a non-specific school threat made on social media. They did not believe the threat warranted a school or district closure, but they planned to investigate. This morning, the police confirmed they are still not clear as to the origin of the Snapchat threat and whether it is credible. There will be a police presence on the campuses of all Willimantic schools and the State Police have been notified for our schools in the Windhams. I know just how scary these calls can be, but I am trusting the police departments to keep everyone safe. They will be working closely with building leaders to fully investigate the threat and have not requested any type of school lockdowns at this time. I will keep families and staff updated. Good Afternoon Windham Staff and Families, As most of you know, Governor Lamont made a recommendation to the legislature yesterday afternoon to remove the statewide mask mandate on February 28th. This decision, if accepted, will move the mask mandate power in schools to the local level. Please know that I am in the process of getting a long list of related questions answered and ensuring that I communicate with a variety of stakeholders such as our Board of Education, local health department, and regional, town and district leadership. I am also putting together a very simple survey for parents/guardians, staff members, and students in Grades 6-12. While I am more than aware of just how polarizing this issue has become, I think the survey will help the district to determine where folks stand. Today our schools started distributing one mask and one box of COVID test kits to our students. These limited supplies are a donation from the State of Connecticut. We anticipate all students in the district receiving one mask and one box of test kits over the next several weeks. Thank you.

Good evening, We are happy to report that the heating issues have been resolved at the Windham Center School, and we are anticipating a return to school tomorrow, January 20th. Good morning, Due to a heating issue in the building, with 13 of our 14 classrooms below 60 degrees, Windham Center School will be dismissing early today, January 19th, at 12:30pm. There will be no after-school programming. We are working to resolve this issue, and we will provide updates as soon as possible.
